My WC 53 is an honest 2.5 tons, with the winch I put on the front. My little WC 36 4 x 2 1/2 ton Carryall is almost exactly a ton lighter and I'm expecting it to be a lot faster on the road, given the 230 cu in engine, 4.1 to 1 diff, and similar rolling radius of the 16" wheels.
However I will be remembering that I had to fix roof damage from at least two rollover accidents so I won't be that adventurous. Half tons, 4 x 4 or 4 x 2, do seem to be a lot easier to turn over.
