You can jump a 6 volt battery with a 12 volt but you run the risk of the battery exploding into your face. Acid and chunks of metal and plastic can be a real bummer.

If you do it, make sure anything that runs on 6 volts such as lights and such are turned OFF!!!! You really don't want to do this. However, if it must be done, make the final connection to the frame of the jumped vehicle and pull the frame connection away. You want to go positive to positive. Also, make gosh darned certain you use a heavy enough booster cable. You want at least an 8 gauge cable, 6 or even 2 gauge would be even better as there will be a LOT of current going through the cable. Look at the cables on your 6 volt system and then look at the wiring on a 12 volt.

I say again, I really don't recommend this. Personally, I would have the battery charged. Most of the better chargers still have 6 volt settings as that is what a lot of garden equipment uses. Over the road trucks used to use a lot of them too to get more oomph out of 12 volts.
