Some 1/2 ton Carryalls had the 230 engine, those towards the middle and end of production.

The 3/4 tonners have a lower center of gravity. They are more stable off road.

The 1/2 tonners have 4.89 axles, while the 3/4 tonners have 5.83, like the PW and M37. Thus, the 1/2 tonner, with 3/4 rims and 9.00x16 tires, will do an honest 55 mph, with a tail wind. The little 230 is pressed to make a lot of HP, but the 1/2 tonner is lighter than the 3/4 tonner, the PW or the M37.

One real annoyance of the 1/2 tonners is that the brakes cannot be worked on or have mud cleaned out of them without taking the whole hub off, meaning exposing the bearings and fiddling with them. The 3/4 tonners were redesigned to put the brake drum on the outside of the hub, where it belongs. Of course, if you go with Helitools disc brake conversion, that makes it a moot point.
