Usually, the older mechanics would suck it up into a oil sucker gun (I can't for the life of me remember the correct name) and squirt it in. The oil gun looks like a straight grease gun but instead of a handle to pump the grease, it just has the knob on the back like you have at the base of grease guns. It also has a tube on the front. You stick the tube into the oil you want to draw up and pull back on the knob. All it is is a tube with a plunger. Then all you do is put the tube into where you want to put the oil and push the knob back in. This will push the oil back out.

If you don't have the oil gun, you can get some of the quart bottles of gear lube, slip a rubber hose over the end of the nozzle, then hold it as near level as possible and squeeze it. You won't get it all in because of gravity but then you can refill it with another bottle and keep at it until you get the tranny filled.

Have you tried taking the plate off the floor and filling it from the top? I never tried this on my '52 so I don't know if you can get a long funnel and do this or not.
