Swivel Frame Running Board Question

Question for you swivel frame experts (Jonas, Chris, Steve, Dan, Scott, etc.).

What is the correct length of the front and rear running board sections on swivel frame trucks with express (pick-up) beds? On the trucks I have seen, the rear running board has been cut off a few inches behind the end of the front running board. How many inches back, and what is the effective overall length of each remaining piece?
