I have never seen a Power-Wagon float "go bad", as far as not floating on top of the fuel anymore.

Probably the most common thing that happens is that the resistance windings in the tank unit wear or burn through. Has the truck ever had 12-volts hooked up to it? The second most common problem is that the tank unit looses its ground. The least common problem is that the resistance windings in the dash unit burn out.

Yes, it can be hooked up backwards and will show an empty tank when it is actually full.
