Take that same amount of money and spend it on gas and oil, and run it through that truck. Take the time you would have spent painting it and drive it. Take it downtown. Haul some hay. Fix a fence. Use it!
Photograph it well, so that decades from now, when the writing on the door has finally faded from sight, you can then paint it back. My guess is that if you use your truck, the patina will grow, not dissapate. You'll leave your own mark on the truck, and you may decide those experiences look just as good on the truck as the patina you see now.
