We all have to justify our passions somehow, even to ourselves. It is hard enough to keep old iron like my '53 PW going strong, or from rusting away these days. To have any encouragement from one's spouse is priceless.
I recently put my wife's old Volvo engine back together for less than $500 (more than half of that for the gasket set!). She had said to junk it (has a newer Prius!). I said I'll sell it piece by piece first, but decided to get the warped head fixed and put it back together. Now it works great, gets over 27mpg, and has replaced my 1980 Mercedes 300D. When she is ready to junk her Prius, I just may hybridize my PW!
