Hello all,
Is it possible to remove the top rivets on the motor mounts which are attached to the front crossmember and then bolt up the engine support plate to these holes? The rivets -one on each side, are exactly 2&1/4"center to center forward of the motor mount holes used to install the shorter block 218 and 230's. The engine would be mounted about 1/8 to 1/4" higher than normal. Would this cause any problems? If so, I would then remove both engine mounts and attach the support plate directly to the front crossmember using the rivet holes which would be on the same plane as the original engine mount holes for the smaller blocks. To tighten up the bolts and nuts on the crossmember, I would hole saw the reinforcement just enough so I could get a 3/8" drive socket and tighten the nut and bolts from the bottom of the crossmember. What do you guys think. This way I dont have to do any welding or cutting up of the crossmember other than the rivets and reinforcement (if necessary). What do you think?
