I rode to school in my friends 1950 ford f1 with a Perkins diesel. He pulled the engine out of an wold tractor they had on the farm. We only went 50 miles in hour downhill, but it got 40 miles to the gallon. He lived about 1 mile from my house and on a real cold morning, I could here him start up and shift through the gears to my house. It really turned heads with people because it sounded just like an old tractor rattling down the street. To top it off, it was painted vw green! It was pretty cool, for a ford.
