But it looks like the plate that bolts to the frame could extend further rearwards, incorporating two holes for the inner fender brace. Making it that long would allow for a larger/longer brace? Brake and fuel lines would be a hindrance on my truck, with flat head and under-floor master.
I made my plate pretty thick. 3/8? I had to grind off some of the flash and gussets around the shaft support boss of the box. I wanted to maximize protrusion through the frame. There just ain't no extra length in there. I hope you have room for a pitman arm puller?
Does your welder have enough guts to weld the heavier stuff? My 110v Lincoln didn't cut it. Claims to do 3/16" with multi passes, but it doesn't. No penetration. I stick welded mine. That was before I bought the bigger Mig.
"Normalization" doesn't make mild steel stronger, it only relieves stress, and is a good thing if you are going to machine the weldment. Otherwise it would be subject to warpage with each pass of the mill.
