I collect anvils and they generally run anywhere from 1$ to $1.50 a pound depending on how good of shape they are in. Some of the older ones will bring more then that. If its beat up like you say I wouldnt give more then 1$ a pound for it. Maybe less. Dont grind the face smooth as you can screw up the heat treatment. But you got to decide how bad you want it or need it and factor in if you know where another anvil is in your area to buy or add shipping onto a better anvil bought else where. That may make this anvil worth 250$ and up.
As far as repairing an anvil its a very hard thing to do and theres very few people out there that can do it. Many try and fail.
You could also shoot the anvil if you decide you dont want to pound on it!
