Good points you make there.
In the course of parting out Power Wagons, I have ended up with a couple of stacks of brake drums, standing about five feet high each. Probably 40 or 50 drums, not counting the ones still on trucks waiting to be parted. Knowing the availability of drums, I have never thrown a drum out unless it was visually damaged.
You mention having Matt produce new drums, I have often wondered why a drum couldnt be sleeved somehow? I realize it is a totally different environment than a sleeved hydraulic component, but it seems like it could be done more economically than producing a new component. Anyone ever heard of this being done?
