I have done 2 windshields this way. On both I cut out the center bar and all clips for smooth interior. #1 - the bottom was so rotted that I wrapped a solid sheet of steel around the bottom and welded it all up. Then used a Planters peanut can to radius the corners and jigsawed out the center in a giant rectangle with rounded corners. #2 had a good bottom so I just laid a piece of flat steel on the outside face of the empty frame and welded it. Very easy. I wanted as much window as possible so I cut my opening as large as I could. Leave enough lip at the bottom and sides for the glass rubber. At the top leave enough lip for the rubber and to mount your wipers. I converted to electric wipers so need a bit more room. Then I glued a mirror on the glass. Nice and water tight!
