I have a pretty good epoxy that is self leveling and glossy. I used to do the finish coat with the same epoxy as the lamination. Problem is it take 3 or four hours to dry, so now after the lamination I sand the lamination brush it with alcohol let it dry and gloss coat with a poliester sun cure that drys in 5 min. once exposed to the sun, so I jsut brush it on take it outside and vala. Aroblem with epoxy is it waxes up a little so once it is dry it needs to be sanded for the next coat, however if you top coat before it is completely dry and still a bit tacky you can top coat direct with the epoxy, don't know if that would apply to another type of paint for your finish coat

Maybe their is an acrylic or urethane etc. you could use for the finish on the epoxy but I have no experience here
