The Maiden Voyage: My first drive in the 48 Dodge Power Wagon was an experience. Let's say I'm glad the truck came with a side mirror because it made it easy to see the 20 or so pissed off drivers behind me - 30 MPH aint exactly WARP spee...d!

And the brakes...Oh my, the brakes...with a cup full of gas in the tank (body shop was too cheap to put any in) I darted across the interesection (didn't want to shift because I couldn't find 4th) and pulled into Cumberland Farms to have a woman in a Ford Focus cut me off. I dont know what was funnier, seeing her death stare or my look of bewiilderment as I pumped the brakes to stop from killing her...lol.

I got to the top of Mountain road and took a right on Blackstrap heading for home. When I grabbed for the window crank to get some fresh air because the heater was melting my eye lids closed I heard something hit the floor - shit, where's the window crank? I reached for the light in the cab - oh shit, the truck doesn't have a dome light. When I looked back up after perusing the floor for the window crank I saw a black lab standing in my lane looking at me. Damn! I jerked the truck to the side and into the shoulder (thank god for the off road tires) and made it safely back onto the road with out maiming the ole girl. I learned quickly that DPW doesn't have rack and pinion -the Chevelle it is not!

So far I've made about thirty trips from the house into the garage. The smell of fresh paint, oil dripping on the cement floor (just kidding!) to hear my wife say, "Are you going to sleep out there?"

Damn I'm going to miss that girl! ;-)See More
