Welcome to the "Good Roads" club Forest! ;^)

Those Model DS (Dodge Special) plows built by Good Roads from about 1947 and up, are unique, as you well know. They were factory approved by Dodge for use on their new 1-ton Power-Wagon and shown in most of the early Power-Wagon sales literature. I am not sure if the SEG at Dodge had anything to do with, or any input upon, the design of the plow mounting, or if the design was completely Good Roads. In any case, Good Roads had a lot of years of experience designing plows up to 1947. Their models were designed for ease of mounting, strength, durability, and they also went to gereat lengths to assure that use of the plow would not transmit unecessary damaging force back to the truck. The "shock plates" helped keep mounting holes from wallering out between the plow mount and the truck frame.

I did not want to weld anything to my frame, so I did not get the shock plates when I bought the plow. It was a good thing as I have taken the plow from the first truck I had it mounted on and put it on my other truck.

I got around the shock plate by "bridging" the plow mount to the truck frame. You can see in the attached image the lack of shock plates at the rear of the mount side members. The added bridging consists of one piece of 1/4" thick angle per side that I added to connecting the lower forward point of the side member to the winch extensions. The lower portion of both angles can be seen in the image. They attach to the fourther most forward bolt between the side plates and the lower inverted C-channel plow mount. Then angle up to an existing hole in the frame extension.

T-roy has some better photos on his image event site. He has created the same style of bridging for his plow setup. Maybe he will chime in and provide a link.

I have used my plow for about 12 years with no damage to the frame by adding bridging like this. An added bonus is the I can quickly remove the added parts if I wanted it to look original for any reason.

Don't hesitate to contact me. Just put something "Power Wagon" in the subject line so mail does not get tagged as spam.
