It's finding a wheel that's not only the right size (6" x 1.5"), but has 5/8" bushing inside it. I was wrong about the lead/babbit running directly on the shaft. Now that I have it out I see there's a brass bushing inside the lead. It doesn't press out, though, so I assume it was put in before the lead was poured around it. I also see there are the beginnings of other cracks in the wheel. It's almost as if it's deteriorated from age, if that's possible. I'd just as soon have a new wheel if I could find one the right size, and with a bore big enough to press (gently so as not to crack the wheel) a brass busing into.
