depending on the end use, a 25" flathead is likely the best replacement / upgrade engine. they are almost a direct bolt in and you stay dodge. you get more rpms and if built correctly, you can build a peppy motor. dodge did do a slant six ffpw, so i guess that would be my second choice. with the number of guys swapping larger motors into their 4.0 jeeps, usually 350 chevies, you can assume that those motors don't have the grunt you would want.
