I am not sure this answers your question, but in the latest edition of Vintage Truck magazine there is an article on inspection and rebuild of the Gemmer steering box like we have on the PW's. In the article there are pictures where in one case the worm had a partially sheared tooth that caused some problems with steering effort, etc., and had to be replaced.
