On a rebuilt that has no coolant at all, venting helps. But if the block is already filled, it'll just take until the thermostat opens to 'burp', depending on the bypass system. Or if there is an air hole in the thermostat disc. If there is a lot of air, it takes a long time for the air to warm the thermostat. Might even boil in the block first, and let the head get overheated. All speculative, just a good thing to vent it.

No real big deal.
