use the right nuts and washers. Often they've been removed by some previous mechanic and replaced with ordinary nuts, maybe with lockwashers on them. Those work themselves loose. The right nuts look sort of like a lock nut but go on upside down and fit into a washer with a conical bore in it that squeezes the narrow end of the nut together onto the stud. If you don't have them, they're worth paying the high price to get.
