That story takes me back to 1970. A friend and I planned a trip to Death Valley the week between Christmas and New Years. He gave me the keys to the car so I could pack the camping gear and get it filled up. No problem?
I took the car to get a tank full of 42 cents a gallon and COULD NOT FIND THE GAS CAP! Fortunately another customer saw me pawing all over the sides and back of the car and asked "looking for the tank?". He showed me and that was that. And yes, I agree. What an elegant way to hide it.
