I had a 1965 GMC Carryall with a v6 engine. Not sure which V6, but it had a lot of torque and could get down and keep lugging through about anything. ALMOST as good as a PW, but not quite. It was a gas hog, but gas was cheap then.
I also drove a big GMC tandem dump on a dirt job one summer. The owner had 3 of them, all with the big V6 engines. This was in the early 70's, and most the other truckers had diesels by then. Those big V6 gas rigs would really haul a load in tough conditions. however, I think we figured gallons/mile instead of miles/gal.
All in all, they were pretty good engines for that time.
Jeff
