You can haul more with a fifth wheel, (look at the big rigs) but the difference isn't that much. The biggest difference is a gooseneck takes dirt roads a litle better, as there is a little more flex in that setup. So if you are hauling the camper up to a remote site, the gooseneck is the way to go. I have a hidden gooseneck hitch in my pickup where the ball can be flipped below the bed when not needed. My father in law has one that threads into the plate. Both styles make it easy to haul sheet rock and plywood, although his needs a wrench to tighten it.
