This got me thinking, what happened to garage pits? Yeah, it's nice to have a hoist, but they're expensive, complicated, finicky, and I always wonder if it's going to stay up. Garages used to have pits, but you never seen them any more. I know a hoist gives you lots more room to maneuver, but you can't beat a pit for simplicity. There's no moving parts, it costs almost nothing, and most of all it can't possibly collapse no matter how heavy the vehicle. Why doesn't anyone use pits any more?
