With the type of hoist you mention I personally would see no reason to lower it if the locks are in place.
Older in ground single and two post I would lower at al time regardless if there is a vehicle on it.
I haven't been around newer in ground types for a long time so I don't know if they have safety locks or not. I expect they do by now.
I remember a time when we left a pickup on a double post lift over the weekend.
The front post bled down and rear stayed put.
Wasn't pretty.
