I saw a '57 D300 today that had what looked like a factory 4x4 axle under it. Well, it looked like the front and rear axles from a 1/2 ton WC. I could not tell what transfer case it had. Seems like the rear axles on the '40's and '50's 2wd one ton trucks looked like the WC axle also, but with 6 lug hubs instead of 5 lug.
I wonder if this could be a special built truck or a conversion. I seem to remember seeing a picture of a pilot house PW at the mound road truck plant from back in the day with the 5 lug Budd wheels on it.
