She caused more traffic accidents than a icy road, in winter, Linda a five foot ,nine inch tall blond .Linda also was responsible for more tire wear and noise than hot asphalt ,screeching stops and starts were not uncommon when she walked in town . If there ever was a young woman ,who definitely , had a smoking hot body it was her . She had all the ‘right ‘ curves in all the right places .Long legs that graced her like a Steinway piano ,a slender waist and a great set of buns ,and a well tanned body . As she walked the streets in town in a set short, shorts and a tank top ,young men ,old men ,all men slammed on their brakes to get a better look ! Truly a goddess in her own way ,problem being ,most men sped away after catching a look of her face , the all mighty had graced her with one of largest ,most pronounced noses in these parts . As a child she suffered tremendously from teasing and name calling, wicked witch of the west , ’ Edmonds Rostands’ “ Cyrano “ ,it was terrible ,the suffering she had endured .In her teenage years she became with drawn and bitter on account of her large nose .
Linda’s life was soon to change a dramatically, on a warm spring afternoon in May . A group of us played pick up baseball in the park on Sundays, very informal and just plain fun . Nobody really kept score, and nobody struck out everyone regardless of skill got a chance to score a ‘hit” and run some bases. What happened next was horrific , Linda was playing , back catcher , the pitch , a hit , and Sylvia throws the bat hard . Right into Linda’s face ,in fact bang on the nose , causing Linda to go out . Two volunteer fire fighters were on the playing field that day and rushed to attend to her. A ambulance was called and she was taken to a major hospital in the city . The day ended on a sad note ,we all ventured home and deeply concerned about Linda’s fate . The next day we heard more news of Linda, she had suffered a concussion and major trauma to her facial structure. She would be requiring two more major reconstructive surgeries. Weeks turned months and the winter set in , and our circle of friends do the winter retreat , keeping warm and inside .
The following spring , and the first real warm weather, a few of us turned up at the ball diamond . So did Linda , there was a gathering around her a small group had encircled her . The surgeon, bless his talents , had recreated Linda’s face , gracefully reconstructed her with a most beautiful nose ! Life became good for Linda after that event she married well, gave birth to three fine children and is living happily ever after ~ Copey
