I have to agree with Gordon: picking a good shop with knowledgable people and good equipment in good repair is very inportant. I'll relate an experience i had when rebuilding my '57 Willys F226: It was with a shop I had done several other engines with (MG, flathead V-8 Ford, SB Chevy) and had terrific luck with. One of the owners left and the gut that took his place and did parts ordering didn't believe in anything that didn't have a bow-tie on it or went down a 1/4 mile track was worthy of his time. So he found some pistons and rings that fit the new bore but the number and order of the rings was different and it burned oil immediately. I thought that after the rings seated it would stop but it just got worse. I finally went to sell it and part of the deal was to get the engine redone (he paid for it - I did the install). The parts buyer had gone and the guys that really did the work found the right pistons and rings, and put it all together. The install went great and it fired up on the first try -without a puff of smoke. Be wary of counter guys that are younger than the vehicle you're working on especially if they say 'Did they make that back then?'
