except my F-150 (86). It's only got a 750# payload, as per tag.Guess you can't over genaralize, but it's only a name, not a rating. Correct about the tax situation tho,at one ton you pay $1,000 federal excise tax. Also in 1976 the manufacturors had to put cat converters on 1/2tons, thats when the F150 was born(don't know much about civvie P.W.s, did Dodge change a designation too?)..

p.s. I'd always heard that the G.I. stuff was rated off road- sprung for 1 ton in the rough,good for double on pavement
