I had also re-built my non-synchro. I did not have the same problem, but if I did I would use gut instict. Hey, your in there andlike I say "do it once, do it right". You can have a new gear made. There are gear places you can take this to in order for them to give you their EDUCATED opinion on the gear condition to see if you are fretting over nothing or give you a bid on making a new gear if you cannot find a perfect replacement.
