I owned a Marmon-Herrington like Aaron Arnold describes about twenty years ago. The body from the nose clip back was aluminium and had an access door that opened on the side of the interior cab (behind the front pasesenger seat and next to the rear bench seat) that housed a one and a half inch hose reel. The rest was all cabinets and had places where high powered light poles could be mounted.

It was my understanding that the primary fuction was a"forcible-crash/fire/rescue truck". I was told that the truck probably had a bolt on frame around the body that had been removed (couldn't verify). The theory was to rip open a burning aircraft and rescue people.

I never was able to find out much more. I bought, and sold it, while stationed at Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod. It's quite possible that it was used at the Otis Air Force base there.
