When you have big government throwing its weight around, you get laws like that. Typically, fees charged do not allow for truly competent people to take the actual time necessary to do anything of significance.

The flip side of that would be where they did charge enough money, but it would become so unjustifiably expensive the people would not tolerate it.

Vehicle inspection is a bad solution contrived by do-gooders, trying to justify their existence as bureaucrats, to a non-existent problem

What you end up with is a situation where small minded people on a power trip realize the high point of their miserable lives by lording ot over you.

Years ago Iowa had an inspection law. It started out as a joke and evolved into such a monumental farce that it was finally repealed. There were lots of so-called inspection stations that were only taking the money and providing the papers. No actual inspection work was done.

When you have governmental involvement it becomes particularly perverted in that they don't have to make money Ñ government is just a big money drain, right? Ñ they can do their best to simply be anal-retentives on a power binge.

Boy, I feel better all ready...

And then, there are the cretins at the vehicle license and title transfer counter... OK, OK, I'll stop...
