Engine timeing out of wack, Carb???

I have done almost all I can for my engine at this point. I have replaced spark plugs, wires, distributor cap. I have set timeing numerus times. I have tryed tuneing the carb. Right now their is a lot of gas in the exaust and I need to rebuild the carb. The engine is running rough were when I start to rev it starts clunking bad like its the timeing. Could it be from the carb problem where their is too much gas in the cylender when it fires causeing it to over fire? Any help please or if this has append to you.
