I hear you, but getting back to "made in America" is way harder than it looks. We have to recreate not just factories but whole industrial communities, everything from mines and smelters to rolling mills, machine shops, silicon foundries, tooling and equipment manufacturers, and everything else. If we just do final assembly here, with parts bought from overseas built on equipment built overseas, we haven't really gained anything except a much higher price.

When you read about China today, you realize that they have built entire cities for each kind of industry -- shoes in one city, fireworks in another, electronics in yet another, and so on. That way all the parts suppliers are near the assembly plants, just like it used to be in this country. We can't just bring back one piece. We'd have to bring back the whole thing, and that includes the dirty and dangerous parts that are essentially illegal here.

Either that or we can try to have an economy based on making movies and selling houses to each other.
