The other day, I got brake pads for my station wagon. I had to file them to fit into the calipers. All four of them. That same day in the afternoon, I went to use a WWII US Jerry can for the first time since I picked it up at a flea market. I filled it up with fuel and went to put the donkey dick in to pour into my CCKW. It dripped a bit, so I looked at the nice gasket on the can cap to see about taking it off and using it with the donkey dick. Imagine my surprise and wonderment when I saw the date embossed on the can gasket- 6-44! This was a well used can, and the June 1944 gasket was still on and functioning fine.
That is what pisses me off. Our ancestors built a wonderful industrial base. It had its problems, including safety, environment, and labor suppression. But damn if it wasn't the best in the world. And we- I mean all of us collectively; politicians, financiers, citizens, labor leaders- have destroyed it. Makes me sick...
