No disagreements here. I like your method, in fact I follow the same course, minus the pipe. quite often. I still split by hand, but when I'm dealing with knots from limbs that are 6 or 8" in diameter, I will fire up the splitter.
I'm 68 and I have cut and split 15 to 20 cords in a season for the last 40 years that I've lived in Idaho.
