Since you mention moving to NY, there are a couple BIG considerations you need to factor in.

NY allows trailers up to 10,000 GVW to be operated without a CDL & DOT. If the manufacturer nameplate says the trailer GVW is over 10k be prepared to kiss State butt.

NY being financially destitute has loosed the ball bearing ticket spitters on the population with a whole new vigor. The *&%^$#@)%# Troopers of Troop T (I-90) are producing revenue to the max by issuing tickets for unapproved stickers on windshields and rear windows $297 per ticket + court fees because they don't want to be laid off in the next budget cut.

Our Super Meter Maids have been geneticly enhanced to sniff and ticket equipment violations not enforced for the last 20 years!

Register your trailer in Maine for maximum savings if you live in NY! Just don't admit being employed in NY if you get stopped.
