In these parts poplar is a deciduous tree meaning the leaves fall off or a hardwood .in a scale of hard to soft , of the hardwoods its relatively soft . old saying ' what grows quick burns quick" i like to use it in my wood furnace but thats my choice i have a abundance of it . were popul as the old boys here calls it shines is when you saw it for lumber . we like it for planks 2x4s ect on a good tree very few knots and cuts and saws well . nail it quick ,because when it drys hard to drive a nail in it . At my age my top is falling off but Mrs copey considers me a softwood now lol ~ Copey
