I used a clear plastic polish and cleaner on my daughter's lights. It worked just fine. I did it by hand so it took awhile. I always clean my head lights with a clear plastic cleaner (designed for aircraft windshields) that will not scratch them and follows that with a good wax. This will keep them from going bad.

I also use the clear plastic cleaner on the plastic cover over the dash instruments. Be sure to use a microfiber towel to do this. Do not use a paper towel as they cause a lot of scratches as they have a lot of sharp/hard fibers in them. I have also cleaned up hazed ones with the plastic polish which takes very little time.
