Last year there was exensive discussion about this on the WWII dodge forum. I am sure you can search for it. Due to the requirements of less polutants, the zinc ppm parts per million amount has been lowered in most oils. The zinc in the oil is called zddp. And the lowering of the zddp amount is the issue with older cams like in our flat head sixes. The person that wrote the article even contacted some major oil companies and did find 5 oils that still have zddp over 1200 ppm, and was told by engineers that 1200 ppm or more is what these older cams need. I can't recall all the oil brands except for one, Shell Rotella T 15w-40, for diesel truck and heavy equipment use. Walmart sells the Rotella T in 1 gallon jugs. I just bought some at walmart for $ 12.00 a gallon. This was also discussed in the national "corvette restorer" magazine, which I think is the magazine of the NCRS National Corvette Restorers Society. The Rotella T also meets the oil industry standards that I think are called the API codes, noted in the circle on each jug. So, since that time I only use Shell Rotella T 15w-40 in my 41 WC4, and any other older engine I may have.
