They are drumming up business. Around here, they offer rides for $250 each.
San Diego is a pretty big metropolitan area, 2.7m. So some times there is a formation of B-17, B24, and some escorts, P-51 and p-47.
Best deal would be to take the last ride, as they cross country to the next show. Need to arrange your own return transportation. I've seen the B-17 buzzing the surfers off Del Mar. So low I thought they were getting ready to ditch for some reason. But they circled around and headed on their way north. No minimum altitude over oceans. On fellow I met was flying a 707 so low that his jets were making roostertails. But then when he popped up on radar, controllers thought an incoming missile was headed for San Francisco, jets scrambled, severe verbal chastisement form the FAA once he landed, but no rules broken.
