Take the steering wheel off then remove the starter from the bell housing. Remove the splash pan from the driver's side of the fram along with the battery box. Remove the pitman arm from the steering box. Then unbolt the strap that holds the steering tube to the dash. Now unbolt the steering box from the frame. Then push and rotate the steering box towards the engine until you get the output shaft clear of the frame. Then slide the slide the steering box forward until you get the steering shaft out of the firewall. I can not remember if you take the steering box below or above the front axle but I believe you go below it. I also can not remember if I had to jack up the front end to get the shaft out. It has been quite awhile since I did this but I did do it the way I indicated above.
