I have thought about that, basically, the same truck with a 12 valve would be about $5000 more. Then compare the cost of a starter for a 12 valve vs a 440, or and injection pump vs a carb. The 440 gets about 12 MPG unloaded, the 12V gets 21. I love the Cummins diesels, but I just never have been able to pencil out the overall cost advantage to the diesel engine.
