Steering box removal and drag link removal

I am replacing the steering box in my 48 PW. I have removed the nut from the side shaft, but before I go any further I am wondering if I will have to remove the shaft from the cab or can I remove the box from the lower end of the shaft?
I am also going to rebuild the drag link joints and I was wondering the best way to go about it?
