If you look at the pic I posted of my truck, you will see a small toolbox located right behind my rear fender. The toolbox is an ammo box I bought at a garage sale a few years ago. I have never seen another like it, and it works really well for tools. I usually keep it empty during the winter, as I only plow my driveway and dont leave the yard. This spring, I noticed the box wasnt in the rack I had built to hold the box. Not unusual, it is probably on a shelf or under a bench in the shop. I looked around and never found it. Finally I decided I must have either lost it, or someone took it. The rack will lock, but I usually just latch it with a carabiner. I considered building a wooden box of the right size but hadnt gotten to it.
At lunch today I got a frantic call on my cell. A woman whom we have done a lot of work for on several of her properties was calling, and quite upset. There was a broken pipe at one of her rentals and would I come help her find it. I hopped into the truck and drove over to the rental house. I was working on another house about 5 miles away so it wasnt too far. I got there, and walked into the house. There in the entry, was another ammo box like the one I was missing. Wow! Like I said, I had never seen another like this one, although there must be thousands like it around. After stopping the leak, and getting things cleaned up a bit, I asked one of the tenants if the ammo box was his. He said, I was walking my dog on the road, and found it along side the road, not far from here. I explained how it was probably mine, and he laughed and said "take it" I was quite amazed, it made my whole day. So, what are the chances of me ever re-uniting with that box? All I can figure is I must have left it on my passenger running board and then driven down his dirt road when it fell off.
I need to get into the habit of checking that running board. One time, one of the guys that works for me set a Milwaulkee Hole Hawg in its case on that running board. I hopped in, and drove to Burlington (VT) which is about 25 miles. I ot there, paarallel parked and as I started to walk away I happened to look back at the truck (dont e all do that?) there on the running board, was the hole Hawg case. I was shocked.
Thanks for listening!
Tim
