I think you're wrong. At the gun shows lately, it's rare to find one for less than a grand. Most are $1200-$2000 asking price. Many of the high-end ones are new production. I recently paid $800 for a Century Arms import. Springfield parts, CAI-marked receiver, European (Beech?) stock, barrel supposedly graded 2. Came with 80 rds ammo and clips. Was being sold for an old guy from Seely Lake MT who was sick and hard up, so I had to buy it. It's a real good shooter, which is what matters to me, but nothing to get a collector excited. Paid about the same last year for an all-Swedish Garand.

If good shooters with nothing collectible about them are going for $800, I can't help but think a never-issued matching-number Garand would be worth $2K to the right man. I know the old-timers will chime in about how they used to get them from CMP for $50 or something, but they used to get gas for 15 cents a gallon too. There are three things in this world that seem to keep going up in price, year after year: gas, gold, and guns.

I suppose if the DoDgE BoY wanted to say what he paid for it, he'd have said. If he bought it cheap from an old guy who was hard up, and it turns out to be worth a few big ones... one's conscience might be worth listening to.
