This can happen on any vehicle, but worn front end and out of balance tires make it more likely. I had it happen on my 56 with a Dana 70F with heavy diesel and empty bed. Truck had less than 2000 miles(everything tight) on it when it happened at about 45mph. It was initiated by
a roll the road which pitched the weight diagonally. It appears to basically be a
wobble transmitted from one front wheel to the other which causes the steering wheel to
move with it. A heavy steering damper has
cured mine for the last 50000 miles. I have also had it happen on old Willys jeep due to
bad kingpin bearings
