You need to know what size pump you installed.
They make various pumps with different pressure ratings.
You need a pump that supply's 4-6 psi Max.
The "Carter" Carb. will not handle more than 7 psi
If your pump exceeds that you will need to put a regulator in the line to control it.

I run mechanical pumps on my trucks with No vapor lock problems after I rerouted the fuel line from the pump to the Carb. away from the manifold.
And have the pump "Heat" shield too.
Also make sure your manifold heat control is in "Summer" position.
